s/o Albert G. Grubb and Elizabeth Ann McCarthyCharles, oldest son of Albert and Elizabeth Grubb, was a carpenter and bridge builder in Beverly, Ohio. In 1852, he married Susan F. Dutton, daughter of Hanson and Elizabeth Dutton of Aurelius Township. Charles and Susan had five children.

During the Civil War, Charles served as a Lieutenant in the 18th Ohio Volunteer Infantry from 1861 to 1864 and fought at Stone River, Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain and Missionary Ridge.

After the war, Charles served as a Washington County Commissioner where he was instrumental in obtaining a new courthouse.. He was also a member of the Grand Army of the Republic and the Mount Moriah Lodge. By 1900, he lived with his son Albert in Waterford Township.
