On December 24, 1916, at age 21, she married John C. Bell. They had three children: Mildred Elizabeth Bell, born in November 8, 1918, Reba Irene Bell born November 10, 1919, and Mary Louise Bell born November 2, 1921.
Mary Louise died on January 30, 1922 at the age of 26. According to her daughter Reba, Mary Louise had just given birth to her youngest daughter on November 2, 1921. Her mother died on November 21, 1921. She went to her mother's funeral on a cold and rainy day. She got pneumonia and died as a result of it some weeks later.
