David was a Veteran of the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. David Downing was listed on the Massachusetts Hospital returns as wounded in 1758 during the French and Indian Wars. David enlisted on February 26th 1777 for 3 years as a Private in Capt. Moses Greenleafs Company, in Col. Benjamin Tuppers Regiment. He also served in Capt. Beniah Youngs Company, in Col. Bagleys Regiment, at Crown Point in 1776, At West Point in 1777 and again in 1779. David was wounded in his heel at Ticonderoga prior to the Battle of Saratoga. After the war he settled in Antrim, and then he moved to Marlowe, both in Cheshire County, New Hampshire.
