James "Louis" Fletcher, of Benton, died Thursday, October 4, 2001. He was 78.

Born Sept. 13, 1923, in Bland, he was a retired LPTN III and a farmer. He was a decorated World War II veteran, having received the Victory Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon; the AP Theater Ribbon and a Bronze Service Star and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon.

Fletcher was a member of the Republican Senate Inner Circle and a spiritual advisor to the Benton Chapter Women's Aglow of the First Church of the Nazarene in Benton, and also taught Sunday School at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Eloise Baber Fletcher, of Benton; three sons-Jim and M. Bruce Fletcher, of Benton, and Kenneth Fletcher of Pine Bluff; a daughter, Debbie Gilmore, of Benton; a stepdaughter, Diane Jones, of Memphis; a brother, Glenn Fletcher of Sandpoint, Idaho; a sister, Dorothy Nayler, of Wichita, 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a wife, Emogene Fletcher, and a daughter, Menda Fletcher.

Visitation is scheduled at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ashby's Funeral Home in Benton.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene in Benton with Rev. Dallas Hudspeth officiating.

Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery on Salt Creek Road.
