Funeral services for James Cooke "Jimmy" Wallis, 76, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 20, 2001 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with burial following in I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Mr. Wallis died Saturday, Aug. 18 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. He was a lifelong Rockdale resident. He was born Feb. 6, 1925 in Fort Worth to James Crouch Wallis and Agnes (Cooke) Wallis. Prior to retirement, he worked as a lubrication mechanic for TU Electric-Sandow where he was employed for 33-1/3 years. He married Lydia Ann Strelsky on Jan. 10, 1975 at First Christian Church in Rockdale. Mr. Wallis was a 1942 graduate of Rockdale High School. He was also a graduate of Texas A&M University where he was a member of the varsity tennis team, and a member of the Texas A&M Former Students Assoc. His college study was interrupted by two years service in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was also a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 2078 and served as secretary for many years. He was also a member of the United States Tennis Assoc. (USTA), Texas Tennis Assoc. and Rockdale Tennis Assoc. He enjoyed playing tennis into his 75th year. Rockdale Reporter, August 23, 2001
