Memorial Sunday for Lieut. Mason

A special service will be held at Tabernacle Methodist Church Spotsylvania County, Sunday morning September 24, to honor the memory of Lieut. Garnett Mason, who lost his life in action in France on September 8. The service will be in charge of the pastor, Rev., C. L. Stillwell.

The regular morning service will be brief, from 11 o'clock to 11:30. The memorial service will follow at 11:35.

Lieut. Mason was the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Mason, of Hollybrook Farm.


Funeral Thursday for Lieutenant Mason

Funeral services for 1st Lieutenant Garnett E. Mason, who was killed in action in France September 8, 1944 will be held Thursday at Oak Hill Cemetery, conducted by the Reverend William N. Raney, assisted by Dr. Robert F. Caverlee.

The body will arrive at the R.F. and P. Railroad station here at 5:10 p.m. Tuesday. Members of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars have been asked to form as escort.

The son of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin G. Mason of Hollybrook Farm, Spotsylvania County, Lt. Mason went overseas with the 80th Division in July, 1944, after leaving Fredericksburg with Battery F, 111th Field Artillery of the Virginia national Guard.

A well known young farmer, Lt. Mason was a 4-H Club and All Star leader. He was a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church, a charter member of the Spotsylvania Ruitans and a member of the Elks Lodge.

Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Misses Mary E, and Josephine Mason and Mrs Abbie M Carpenter, and a nephew, Ray Carpenter, Jr.

Pallbearers will be Woodrow Graves, Edward Hilldrup, Robert Garnett, Franklin Liebenow, Harvey Cloe and William Wholey.
