Della Mae, the daughter of Louis and Edna (Klutz) Holm was born in Sioux Rapids and passed away at Lakes Regional Health in Spirt Lake at the age of 91. Della was unable to attend college due to the unexpected death of her mother and she then cared for her younger brother and sister. She married Orville Bernard Becker. They had two children Ron and Connie. The family farmed in the Sioux Rapids-Webb area. Orville died in a motor vehicle accident in 1953. Della and the kids moved to Sioux Rapids and on December 1, 1958 she was married to Edward Harmon Vail. They made their home on a farm outside of Sioux Rapids. Della was a mother and an active farm wife. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, especially flower gardening. Everyone who ever tasted it, was aware of her talent for making angel food cake from scratch. Her cinnamon rolls, canning sweet pickles and tomatoes were also specialties. Ed died in 1985 and in 2008 Della moved to Spirit Lake. Survivors include her son Ron and daughter Connie, her grandchildren, her brother Eldon and sister Betty.
