Barbara L. Baker was born on April 28, 1928 in Council Grove the daughter of Van A. and Virginia (Clyborne) Scholes. She passed away on December 13, 2011 at the Neuvant House in Lawrence.

She married Russell W. Baker on February 15, 1948 in Council Grove. He preceded her in death on December 30, 2000.

They had four children, Karyn Baker of Lawrence, Steve Baker of Lampe, MO., Nancy Hayes of Chandler, AZ., and David Baker of Wichita, three grandchildren and one great grandson.

Barbara and Russell retired to Branson in 1987 and returned to Topeka in 1999 where she lived until her passing. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and a charter member of PEO Chapter GJ both in Topeka.

Barbara's family will receive friends on Saturday, May 19th from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home. Memorial services will follow at 11:00 a.m. Family inurnment services will be in the Greenwood Cemetery at Council Grove later that day. In lieu of flowers memorial may be made in her memory to Grace Hospice, Westminster Presbyterian Church or the Alzheimer's Association for Vascular Dementia Research and sent in care of Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home, 800 SW 6th Ave., Topeka, Kansas 66603.
