Elva Mae Barns, longtime resident of Tonkawa, died on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Hillcrest Manor Nursing Center. She was 83.

The family will have a private memorial service at a later date.

Elva Mae was born on March 13, 1929, in Kay County to William "Bill" and Lucille Farmer Cochran in Ponca City. As a young girl, she and her family moved often to follow her father's career in the Oil Fields. She married Jack Barns and they made their home in Tonkawa.

She was a homemaker and she enjoyed puzzles, shopping and traveling. She made many fun memories in Branson with her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Barns of Tonkawa; granddaughter, Amanda Funk of Tonkawa; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by parents, her husband, her son, Tracey Barns, infant brother, William Cochran, sister, Peggy West and brothers, Mickey Cochran and Danny Cochran.
