DEATH OF M. C. CLEMMONS
Succumbs in Joplin Hospital Following Operation - Funeral Here Today

M. C. Clemmons, of this city, died at 4:30 o'clock yesterday afternoon at the Central Hospital in Joplin, where he was operated on last Saturday for gall stones. He had been sick for about four months.
Physicians at first thought Mr. Clemmons had cancer of the stomach, but the operation revealed that he was suffering from gall stones. His condition seemed satisfactory after the operation and apparently he was well on the road to recovery. However, yesterday afternoon he had a relapse and failed to rally.
Marcus Cebert Clemmons, was born March 20, 1854 in Shelbiina, MO. When 25 years old he came to Carthage and has resided here since. He was married to Allice Hull Collins about 30 years ago. for years he was foreman of the Carthage Lime Kiln Works and lately he had been operating a dray.
Besides the wife the following children survive: Walter and Catherine Clemmons of Carthage, and Mrs. R. R. Judy of Columbia, MO. Mrs. Judy has been here for the past 10 days.
Funeral services were conducted at the Knell chapel by Rev. Dr. W. G. Clinton, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church. Mrs. Ida Hunt sang the funeral hymns. The following were pallbearers; Tom Paar, Antone Ellison, John Rogers, H. C. Griep, J. S. Kenasten and John Hood. Burial was in Park Cemetery.
