James C. Baker (1859-1928) The following obituary was found in the April 19, 1928, Lowell Tribune:
James Baker was born in Wayne county, Kentucky, May 17, 1859 (except his bc says 1856) and departed this life April 14, 1928 at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 28 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Lucinda Upchurch and to this union was born eight children, three of whom survive the going of the father, namely: -- Mrs. Sally Ramsey, Eastville, Kentucky; Mrs. Ollie Traffington,
Princeville, Illinois; and Washington Baker, of Lowell.
After the death of his first wife he was united in marriage to Setta Whitehead, she also having preceded him in his going. Mr. Baker has made his home with his son in Lowell for some eight or ten years and had been in the vicinity of Lowell for about thirteen years. Besides the immediate children he also leaves 24 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends who will miss him. Mr.
Baker united with the M.E. church in Kentucky some time ago. Funeral services were held at the Sheets funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday. Rev. V.V. Hackley, pastor of the M.E. church, conducted the service. Interment in the Orchard Grove cemetery in charge of Sheets and Son.
