Dorothy Sparks
ERWIN — Dorothy Beatrice "Bea" Ford Sparks, age 89, of 162 Bart Green Drive, Johnson City, a former life long resident of Erwin, passed away Monday afternoon, July 18, 2011, at the Johnson City Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

She had been a resident of the Center on Aging and Health in Erwin for the past five years. Mrs. Sparks was born November 30, 1921, in Erwin. She was the daughter of the late James Hiram (J.H.) Ford Sr. and Ethel Mae Booth Ford.

Mrs. Sparks was a well known seamstress in Erwin for many years retiring in 2002 and was also a homemaker. She dedicated her life to her family. Mrs. Sparks was a member of Ninth Street Baptist Church in Erwin, however, after moving to Johnson City, she attended Boone Trail Baptist Church and the First Church of the Brethren.

Other than parents, Mrs. Sparks was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd D. Sparks, who passed away in 1960; two sisters, Thelma Inez Ford and Louise Ford Bryant; two brothers, J.H. Ford, Jr. and Edward Ford.

Mrs. Sparks is survived by her son, Dave Sparks, her daughter, Sue Sparks Wilson, her grandson, Thomas David Wilson, all of Johnson City; one sister, Darlene Ford Masters, of Erwin; one special sister-in-law, Evelyn Ford, of Erwin; several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the Center on Aging and Health, Unicoi County Memorial Hospital and to Johnson City Medical Center for their special care of Mrs. Sparks.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, July 21, 2011, in Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. Herman Clark officiating. Active pallbearers will be Junior Wright, J.J. Wright, Ethan Bailey, Doug Clark and Joe Sparks.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at Robert Ledford Funeral Home.

Those attending the graveside service should meet at the cemetery by 10:45 A.M. Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Northeast Tennessee Chapter, 207 North Boone Street, Suite 1500, Johnson City, Tennessee 37604.
