Mrs.DuRant was born on October 15, 1907, a daughter of the late James Madison Lee
and the late Mellie Wilson Connell Lee. She was a widow of the late A.K. Brown.
She was a member of the Lake City United Methodist Church.
Mrs. DuRant was retired from Florence County School District Number Three, and had previously taught in the schools of Leo, Friendfield, Indiantown, and Lake City. Mrs. DuRant was a member of the Tuesday Literary Club, which founded the Lake City Library, and the Fine Arts Club.
Survivors include two sons, Arnold K. Brown, of Alpharetta, Georgia and Jimmy Brown (Patsy) of Sumter and Beaufort; two daughters, Betty DeWitt of Lake City, Florida and Melanie Bascom (William) of St. Louis, Missouri; a sister, Barbara Lee of Marion; a brother, Stephen Lee (Connie) of Florence; five grandsons,
Joseph William DeWitt (Lynn) of Richmond, Georgia, Benjamin Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, Andrew Brown of Atlanta, Georgia, Jim Brown (Shannon) of Beaufort, and Robert Brown, of Athens, Georgia; three granddaughters, Elizabeth Burlingame (Curt) of Lake City, Florida, Lee Bascom-Anderson (Michael) of St. Louis, Missouri, and Elizabeth Bascom, also of St. Louis, Missouri; and ten great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2008, in the Brockington Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial will follow in the Lake City Cemetery.
After the services friends are invited to join the family at the Lake City United Methodist Fellowship Hall.
