Jeanette Knutzen Borneman passed away on April 3, 2012 in Anacortes, Washington at the age of 97.

Born on February 22, 1915 in the Knutzen family home in Burlington, Washington. She was the only daughter of Hans Knutzen and Clara Nielsen whose families migrated from Denmark and established a rich history of farming and business in the Skagit Valley.

She graduated from Burlington High School and then attended Pacific Lutheran College, completing her studies just shy of a Teaching degree.

She moved to Seattle and worked at Air Reduction Sales where she met and married Robert W. Borneman in 1939. After raising two sons to school age, she returned to the working life as a School Secretary at Lake City Elementary. Her positive impact on the students for over 25 years left a legacy for many.

Retiring in 1978, Jeanette and Bob enjoyed living on Camano Island for 30 years. They spent many of the years wintering in Thousand Palms, California. She loved playing golf and was very gracious in her winning ways, compiling many more trophies than her husband.

Since 2008, Jeanette has resided in Anacortes. First at Rosario Assisted Living and for the last year at San Juan Nursing Care.

Jeanette was preceded in death by Robert, her husband of 70 years, her brothers Stanley, Howard, and Clifford, her oldest son, Richard.

She is survived by her son, Russell Borneman, with his wife, Vicki, of Anacortes; grandchildren, Richie Borneman, of Seattle, Sucia Dhillon, of Spokane, Robyn Borneman, of Seattle, Sara & Claire Borneman, of Anacortes. Stepgrandchildren include Libby Digweed, Brian Sanders, Ted & Tim Craig.

A graveside service was held at Evergreen-Washelli Funeral Home, Saturday, April 7th, at 12 pm with a reception following at Ballard Elks, 6411 Seaview Ave.
