Sarah B Colville was born abt 1810 in Kentucky. She was the daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth Vivian Colville, residents of Darke County, Ohio at the times of their deaths. Sarah was one of eleven known children of Joseph and Elizabeth.

Sarah and John were married on 26 Dec 1833 in Darke County, Ohio by Rev Elisha Ashley, Elder, Christian Church.

They were the parents of eight known children: James D. Patten, twins Richard J. and Joseph R. Patten, William T Patten, George W. Patten, Ann/Anna Marie Patten Stumbaugh, Martha C Patten Kraus, and Milinda Jane Patten Stumbaugh. Joseph and George remain unaccounted for. Joseph is said to have died at age 24 in Cass County, Indiana.

Sarah and John's exact death dates and burial location have not been established at this time. They were both alive on the 15 July 1870 census in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana. Per signed witness statements of John R and James M Hickey, they were alive seven months later on 8 Feb 1871 when they moved on to their homestead property in Hickey Township, Johnson County, Arkansas. John appears on the 1880 census in Johnson County with new wife Mary Unknown. This would place Sarah's death between 1871 and 1880 in Johnson County, Arkansas.

Sarah and John Patten's homestead was approximately four miles from Newton Cemetery in Johnson County, Arkansas. Newton was the cemetery in use at the time. Their son James D. Patten was buried in Newton Cemetery in 1879 and his grave is marked with a military marker. Three adult members and two children of this Patten family are unaccounted for. They are John, Sarah, and three of James D Patten's sons, adult son Sylvester, and children James Richard, and John W Patten. All disappear after the 1880 census. Surrounding James D Patten's known grave are the field stone marked graves of three adults and two children. It is believed the family are all buried there, though this cannot be confirmed.

This memorial was created to remember those gone and for informational purposes. It should not be considered as absolute proof of their final resting place, but rather, best available evidence. This memorial will be updated if new information becomes available.
