Minnie Stokes Garcia
Minnie Stokes Garcia, 96, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 10, 2012. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Catholic Church with Deacon Marc Main officiating. Burial will follow in the Abilene Municipal Cemetery, directed by Abilene Funeral Home.
Mrs. Garcia was born March 4, 1916, in Rosenberg, Texas. She lived in Abilene most of her life and was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church.
Survivors includes a son, Pat Stokes, Jr. and wife, Mary A. of Abilene; two daughters, Mary Acosta and husband, Pete and Amelia Loza Vasquez, all of Abilene; 15 grandchildren; 51 great grandchildren; and 88 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Garcia was preceded in death by her two husbands, Pat Stokes, Sr. and Andres Garcia; a granddaughter, Minnie Gonzales; and John Stokes who she raised as a son.
Pallbearers will be Tudy Rocha, Edward Martinez, Joseph Flores, Ricky Espinoza, Rickey Stokes Jr. , Alex Gallimore, Chris Stokes and Taylor Stokes. Honorary pallbearers will be Pete Acosta, Jr., Luis Torres, Mikey Leal and Jonathan Flores.
A rosary will be held 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Abilene Funeral Home, 3349 N. 12th Street, followed by a wake service at 7:00 p.m.
