Sam A. Goecks, 73, 1510 7th St., Monroe, died Wednesday, March 2, 1983, of an apparent heart attack suffered while at Washington Implement at rural Monticello. He was pronounced dead on arrival at St. Clare Hospital. Born in rural Winslow, Ill., Sept. 12, 1909, he was the son of Ernest and Katherina Wild Goecks. He attended Jordan Prairie rural school in Decatur Township. He married Helen Burkhalter in 1931. His marriage to Gladys Keener Marty took place July 6, 1946, in Washington Reformation Church. They farmed in Washington Township from 1948 to 1980, when they moved to Monroe.

Surviving are his wife, Gladys; a son, Clarence (Curly) Goecks, Monroe; two step-children, Mrs. Virgil (Agnes) Leuzinger and Eugene Keener, both of Monticello; five brothers, Robert, Ernest, Herbert H., Edwin and Walter Goecks, all of Monroe; four grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1926, his mother in 1961; a daughter, Florence
McGinnis, in 1972, and four brothers, Clarence (Casey) April 1, 1980; Frederick T. on April 16, 1980, and two in infancy.
Mr. Goecks was a member of the Washington Reformation Church and the Yester-Year Auto Club and a former member of the Skinner Creek Watershed.

Funeral services were held Saturday, March 5, in Washington Reformation Church, rural
Monticello, the Rev. Steve Pederson officiating. Burial was in the Washington Church
Cemetery.
