Nancy Elizabeth Averett, daughter of William A. Averett and the former Elizabeth Tinley, was born on October 9th 1848 in Richmond County, Georgia. She was known as Nannie by her family and friends.

In 1889, Nannie was married to Philip A. Schley, son of Judge John Schley and the former Mary Ann Montfort of Augusta. Nannie and Philip had no children.
