Elizabeth Freed, age 100, a longtime resident of Lakeview Township, Burke County, then of Bowbells, and more recently of Crosby, died Thursday evening, March 29th at St. Luke's Hospital, Crosby. A Mass of the Christian Burial was held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 2nd at St. Jospeh's Catholic Church, Bowbells, with Father Eugene G. Frank as the celebrant. Recitation of the Rosary and Benediction was held Sunday, April 1st at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial was held at St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare.
Casketbearers were her grandsons and great-grandsons, Dennis and Ron Freed, Floyd, Jon, Michael and Daniel Chrest. The organist was Gwen M. Lorenz.
Elizabeth Liepold was born September 13, 1883 at Heron Lake, Minn., a daughter of Florian and Victoria Liepold. She was united in marriage to Joseph H. Freed, Oct. 29, 1901, at Heron Lake. Shortly thereafter, they came to Lakeview Township, where Joe had already filed on a claim, near Des Lacs Lake. They lived there and farmed until the death of Joe, July 10, 1948. In 1959, she moved into Bowbells and in 1976 she entered the Crosby Good Samaritan Center.
Survivors include a son, Francis Freed and a daughter, Mrs. Harvey (Leone) Nelson, both of Bowbells; four grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Joseph, Jr., in 1926; a daughter, Elsie Rostomily in 1953; two granddaughters and four sisters.
