The funeral services for the remains of H.A. Anderson was conducted Monday afternoon by the Rev. H.O. Ward, at the Methodist Church. Burial was made in Oakland Cemetery, beside the remains of his little son.
Mr. Anderson, who lived alone in rooms over his store building, fell downstairs Tuesday afternoon, May 29, when stricken with a paralytic stroke while in the stairway. The next day he was missed by those who had been accustomed to see him cross the street, which led to an investigation, which resulted in finding him at the foot of the stair shortly after noon on Memorial Day. After gaining entrance by breaking in the panels of the door, his body was moved, so that the door could be opened, and he was taken to the hospital. Pneumonia developed, and death came on the morning of June 1.
Several years ago, Mr. Anderson retired from the active practice of photography and spent much of his time in these later years in reading and visiting with his associates and friends. In his younger years Mr. Anderson took an active part in community affairs, as he had grown to young manhood in Forest City.
Hafslund Amiel Anderson was born in Vernon County, Wisconsin, November 14, 1863, and passed away Friday morning, June 1, 1934, at the age of 70 years, 6 months, 19 days.
Mr Anderson came to Forest City with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Anderson, in June 1878 and grew to manhood in this community.
On May 27, 1891, he was united in marriage to Minnie Furtney at Austin, Minnesota, and in 1892 they returned to Forest City to make their home. Mr. Anderson being engaged in the photography business. To this union two children were born: one son, who passed away at the age of three years, and one daughter who died about three years ago.
The deceased is survived by one brother, S.E. Anderson of Swea City, Iowa. Three sisters, Mrs. Anna Cole of Canada: Mrs. C. J. Winter of St. Paul, Minnesota: Mrs. Elvina Kadolph of Forest City; and five grandchildren of his deceased daughter, Sara Irene Anderson Ottosen.
In early manhood he united with the Methodist Church and was one of the charter members of the local Epworth League, and for many years was a member of the choir, taking an active part in all church affairs. He experienced many intense and delicate colorings of struggle, hard work, success and disappointment, shadow and sunshine, and of late years because of failing health and reasons he felt justifiable, he gradually retired from outside activities and lived a more secluded life. He had, as all men, some peculiarities, but was a man of strict sobriety and integrity and conscientious in all his affairs.
