Rose Marie Ackerman, 97, died Monday, March 14, 1994 at the Kenmare Community Hospital. Her funeral was held Friday, March 18 in St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare with burial following in the church cemetery.

Officiating for the service was Rev. Peter Kunnalakat, St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare, Rev. Fr. Lawrence Wagner, O.S.B., and Rev. Fr. Joseph Adkins, Celebrants. Maureen Munch was organist. Active Casketbearers included George Bauer, Jack Munch, William Schmitz, Allan Essler, Leroy Thelen, and Don Thompson. All relatives and friends served as Honorary Casketbearers.

She was born November 17, 1896 at Walch, Wisconsin, a daughter of Peter and Anne (Ackerman) Meyer. They moved to North Dakota in the early 1900’s and homesteaded near Kenmare where she was reared and educated. She married Peter Ackerman, February 4, 1918 at St. Comgunde, Sask., Canada. They resided in Kenaston, ND until 1936 when they moved to Kenmare. She was employed for several years with Kenmare Laundry and Cleaners. Her husband passed away August 1, 1950 and she continued to reside in Kenmare.

Rose was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and St. Jude’s Circle. She was a charter member of the VFW and member of the Kenmare Senior Citizens.

She is survived by sons, Jerome “Bud”, James, Alvin, all Kenmare, Lawrence, Elgin, Leroy, Devils Lake, and Peter, Minot; daughters, Evelyn Schmitz, Custer, SD, Rachel Mattern, Kenmare, Marilyn Kalmbach, Flaxton, Darlene Bartuska, Mohall, and Shirley Clark, Wilbur, WA; daughter-in-law Adeline Olsen, Kenmare; sister, Florence Kamrowski, Winona, MN; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Ackerman, Williston, Marcella Ackerman, Kenmare, and Annabell Lassy, Waterloo, IA; 62 grandchildren; 95 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son, Maurice, three sisters, ten brothers, sons-in-law, Marvin Kalmbach and James Bartuska, daughter-in-law, Sharon Ackerman, and several grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Thompson-Larson Funeral Home of Kenmare was in charge of arrangements.
