Bud was born June 20, 1922 at Kenaston, North Dakota, a son of Peter and Rose (Meyer) Ackerman. As a young man he attended St. Agnes Academy. In January 1943, he entered the U.S. Army, serving during WWII, until his discharge in October 1945. He received the Good Conduct Medal during his enlistment. He returned to Kenmare, and on August 23, 1947 he married Isabelle Longre. He operated Gooseneck Transfer hauling coal during the winter and grain during the summer months. He retired in 1985 from his trucking business due to ill health. He had been employed by St. Agnes Catholic Church as a janitor at the time of his death.

Bud was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church, and had served on its church board since 1950. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Heidenberg-Peterson Post No. 64 of the Kenmare American Legion, and the Kenmare V.F.W. Post No. 7049 firing squad which originated in 1946. Active in Kenmare community affairs, he had been on the city council since 1966, and had served on the Kenmare Fire Department, serving as its fire chief from 1963-1966. He was also a charter member of the Kenmare Ambulance.

Officiating for the service will be Rev. Fr. Peter Kunnalakat, St. Agnes Catholic Church, Kenmare, and Rev. Fr. Lawrence Wagner, O.S.B., St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Bowbells. St. Agnes Church Choir to offer "One Day At A Time", "Be Not Afraid", "Only A Shadow", and "Peace Is Flowing Like A River". Ken Busch, organist.

Active Casketbearers will include William Schmitz, Felix Essler, Dave Schmitz, Foster Ankenbauer, Lawrence Schumacher, and James Geiger. Bud's wonderful grandchildren, his community of friends and neighbors, and those with whom he served in community organizations will serve as Honorary Casketbearers.

He is survived by his wife, Isabelle "Izzy"; son, Ronald and his wife Joan; two grandchildren, Susan Koehn and Rhonda Ackerman; sisters, Evelyn Schmitz, Rachel Mattern, Marilyn Kalmbach, Darlene Bartuska, and Shirley Clark; brothers, Alvin, James, Lawrence, Leroy, and Peter; sister-in-law, Adeline Olsen. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Maurice, sister-in-law, Sharon Ackerman, and brothers-in-law, Marvin Kalmbach and James Bartuska.

Interment: St. Agnes Catholic Cemetery, Kenmare, ND.

Military rites will be accorded by representatives of the Heidenberg-Peterson Post No. 64 of the Kenmare American Legion, and the Kenmare V.F.W. Post No. 7049.
