It is believed from family members that she was approximately 6 months old when she died.
Per a tape recording from Olive, ( her sister) Anna Marie (her mother), let a lady take care of her while the 2 were in San Francisco, while Annie Marie took care of a divorce
from her first husband, Al Gregory (whom she was married to for about 9 years and he was sterile). Annie Marie and Madeline traveled from their home in Hawaii to San Francisco to have the paperwork finalized, which took about a week to get there.
Madeline contracted small box or diptheria from the ladies home and died rather quickly.
