born in Cork, Ireland, the son of Mary (Scott) and Hugh Jameson, a merchant of Cork. He married first in 1771 at Cork Sarah "Sally" Morrison, daughter of Abraham Morrison. They would have six children. After his wife's death in 1799 he would marry a Miss Emma Westropp and have another eight children. A successful merchant he left a complicated estate with several codicils to his will and a lengthy chancery.
