Dr. Giles Paddock Ransom was born, 13 January 1824 in New York He was an early settler to Winnebago County, Illinois worked as postmaster in Belvidere, Boone, Illinois. In 1850 he graduated from Rush Medical School (Chicago, Illinois)before briefly serving as Asst. Surgeon for the 2nd Illinois Light Artillery during the Civil War.
Giles Ransom was best known for his many years of medical assistance to the residents of the area. He married 7 March 1850 in Roscoe, Winnebago County, Illinois to Mahala Ruth Jenks (whose father, Solomon Jenks, resided in Roscoe and was the first Physician in the area)They were the proud parents of 6 children: Wilmot Leland, Lydia Elizabeth, Penn Walker, Giles Norman, Susan Grace, and Charles Arthur.
