MR. SMITH
LAFAYETTE -- Mr. Albert E. (Hamp) Smith, 84, of LaFayette, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000 at East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17 at 3 p.m. at LaFayette Heights Baptist Church in LaFayette with the Rev. Paul Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the LaFayette City Cemetery.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Helene (Dena) Smith of LaFayette; and many nieces and nephews.
Born Oct. 31, 1915 in Chambers County, Mr. Smith operated Hamp Smith Grocery in LaFayette for over 30 years. He also served on the LaFayette City Council for 16 years. His wife currently holds the seat on the City Council.
Mr. Smith was a veteran of World War II, and a member of LaFayette Heights Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, Feb. 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jeff Jones Funeral Home in LaFayette.
