WILLIAM B. NEFF
BELOVED CITIZEN OF BUCKEYE TOWNSHIP PASSES TO HIS REWARD
The death of William B. Neff of Buckeye township, Thursday, April 24, was a great loss to the community in which he lived. He was 68 years of age at his death. His door was always open day or night to friend, neighbor or any wayfarer who happened to pass along. No man or woman was ever turned from his door with an empty stomach or without a night's lodging if they wanted it.
Mr. Neff's health started failing about two years ago and he gradually became weaker until death came. He did not seem to suffer and he never complained of any pain. He went to sleep Monday night and lay in a comatose state until death came Thursday morning.
Mr. Neff and family moved to Gladwin county from Indiana 14 years ago. He became a leader in his community at once. He was an elder of the Church of the Brethren and was presiding elder of the church at Knoxville for a number of years.
He was a kind and generous husband and father. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife, three sons, James and Clinton Neff of Buckeye township, and Glenn Neff of Flint, three daughters in law, four grandchildren, six brothers and two sisters; one brother, Daniel Neff, living near Arbutus, and his five other brothers and two sisters living in Indiana. His many friends extend their heartfelt sympathies to his family in their great loss.
His wish was that the Rev. Wm. McKimmy preach his burial service and that he be buried at Gladwin. A short service was said at his home, when the body was taken to the church for the regular burial service. Rev. Wm. McKimmy was assisted by the Revs. Perry McKimmy and Geo. Killian. The pallbearers were deacons of the church, being Sam Coy, Daniel Stern, Henry Rau, David B. Mote, Archie VanDyke and Alfred Ohmart.
The neighbors and friends extend their sympathy to the bereaved family. Gladwin County Record dated 5-8/1924 Column – 5 Page – 8.
