According to the document from the Southern Claims Commission June 21, 1872, Matilda Loftin, then widow of Stephen Loftin, filed a claim for payment for losses she and her family suffered as Southerners loyal to the U.S. Government during the Civil War.
According to her testimony in this document Stephen was killed after his discharge by Rebels. She states that she was left with 5 children that were hers by Stephen and 8 he had when she married him. The following were all living at the date of the deposition.
