The Iberia Sentinel, July 1933

Mrs. Alice Skaggs, who was found lying prostrate upon the floor here at her home in Iberia, Sunday evening, July 16, having evidently suffered a paralytic stroke, failed to rally from the unconscious state in which she was found and passed away Friday afternoon (July 20, 1933).

Mrs. Skaggs was the widow of the late J.D. Skaggs, who met a tragic death a few years ago while operating the Iberia flour mill which he owned at the time and still owned by the widow at her death. Since the death of her husband, she has lived alone most of the time with the exception of a few months occasionally when she stayed in the home of her son, Bennett.

At the time of her passing she was 74 years, 4 months and 1 day old, having been born March 20, 1859. On March 23, 1882 she was united in marriage to Jefferson Davis Skaggs and to this union four children were born, Carac, Pearl, Olive and Bennett, Bennett being the only surviving child. She is also survived by one granddaughter, Pearl, daughter of Mr. and Ms. Bennett Skaggs of Eldorado Springs, Missouri. Besides her son and granddaughter, she leaves one sister, Mrs. Gusta Jones of Belle, Mo., and other relatives to mourn her death.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Miles Bowden of Hancock, Mo. were held at the Iberia Cemetery Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the presence of a host of sorrowing relatives and friends, after which burial was made under direction of G.W. Adams, funeral director.
