Mrs. Sarah Ellen Gardner, another one of Iberia's well known and highly esteemed women, died Sunday morning 6 o'clock, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. G.W. Adams, following an illness of about three months, caused by gall stone.
She was born in Lexington, Indiana, March 18, 1853, being 70 years, 8 months and 24 days old at the time of her death.
She came to this part of the country at the age of eleven years with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Hume, and was married to Felix B. Gardner in 1870. To this union twelve children were born, four of whom died in early life. Her husband preceded her in death one year, five months and nineteen days. The children living are: Mrs. Geo. W. Adams, Mrs. Everett G. Wilson, Mrs. Brose Dickerson, Mrs. Walter Dickerson all of Iberia, Mrs. James Goforth of Richland, Mrs. O.L. Dupree and Frank Gardner both of Springfield and Arthur Gardner of St. Louis.
All the children were at the bedside of their mother when the death angel came. Death came peacefully, she passing away just like going into a peaceful slumber.
Beautiful and impressive funeral services were held at the home, and were conducted by Prof. G. Byron Smith of the Congregational Church of which the deceased was a member…the balance of the copy is torn
