He was a son of the late Thomas & Mayme Schneider Carr.
Mr. Carr attended school in Pittsburgh and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II & received the Battle Star,the Good Conduct Medal & the European African Middle Eastern Medal with One Star;he also served 3 years with the Army National Guard.
As a carpenter, he worked for 25 years with L.E. Smith, Gettysburg. He retired in 1994 from Gettysburg College;was a life member & past president of the Gettysburg Fire Dept., where he also drove ambulance. He was an officer for the Gettysburg Police Dept. & was a dispatcher for Adams County Control. He was a member of the Southeastern Fireman’s Association, the Gettysburg Veterans Fireman’s Association, a life member of the Gettysburg Elks 1045 and also the American Legion Post 202, & VFW Post 15, both of Gettysburg.
He was the husband of Lorna Mitchell Carr and surviving, in addition to her, are three sons: Thomas Carr, James Carr & Ronald Carr; five step-sons, Gregory Yingling, Todd Yingling, & Joseph Yingling, all of Gettysburg, Stephen Yingling of Dillsburg, & Michael Yingling of East Berlin; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; 8 step-grandchildren; 1 step-great-grandchild; one sister, Dorothy Miller of Pittsburgh; & one brother, Regis Carr of Pittsburgh.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Carr; two sisters, Gertrude Hunt & Mary Kobus; & a brother, William Carr.
Interment was with full military honors.
