Leroy Lester Armke
Leroy Lester Armke passed away Aug. 24, 2002, at the age of 88 years. Lester was born June 7, 1914, in Blanco County to Friedrich Armke and Otillie Heidrich.

He served in the armed forces in WWII, 303 Service Squadron. His tour included North Africa and Italy. He enjoyed life-long friendships with many of his tour buddies. Upon release from the Army, he met and married Marjorie Jones July 10, 1946. They lived in Devine, Texas, for 20 years where he farmed and worked as an aircraft mechanic at Kelly Field. He and Marjorie returned to their homestead in Blanco in 1978.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Faye, and five children: Forrest Jay and wife Ellen, James Clay and wife Sharon, Karen Kay and husband Richard, Gloria Gay , Dayton Ray and wife Pamela; three siblings: Lola Ammann of Boerne, Rowena Voges of Blanco and Freddy Armke of Johnson City. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Amy Armke, Wade Armke, Cord Armke, Julie Armke, Eric Armke, William Armke, Trisha Burns, Ryan Burns, Sonny Byrne, Chad Byrne, Chance Armke, Koda Armke, Ashley Byrne and Desmond Byrne.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 26, at Crofts Funeral Home, and burial followed at the McKinney Cemetery in Blanco.
Leroy enjoyed many years of Blanco Panther sports and was one of their most devoted fans. He will be greatly missed by many.
