UTICA — Charles Lewis Lonsinger died Jan. 28, 2007. He was born Sept. 26, 1923, in Coshocton County. He was preceded in death by his father, Lee Lonsinger; his mother, Ethel Verna (Sheldon) Lonsinger; three sisters, Evelyn Rine Cochran, Ruth Lucille Farmer and Helen Marie Davidson; and a half brother, Ernest Lonsinger.

Mr. Lonsinger is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Jane (Crow) Lonsinger; three sons, Mark D. (Karen) Lonsinger of Charleston, W.Va., David L. Lonsinger of Tampa Bay, Fla., and Paul P. Lonsinger of Story, Wyo.; three grandsons, Michael, Matthew and Daniel Lonsinger; and two very special nieces, Judith Davidson Fisher and Patty Lou Farmer Seward.

After graduating from Warsaw High School, Mr. Lonsinger enlisted in the Navy on March 17, 1943, and served three years in the Hospital Corps during World War II. He worked at Oak Knoll Navel Hospital in Oakland, Calif., and was assigned to PT Boat training in Melville, R.I. He was sent overseas to the Pacific Theater where he was stationed in the Philippines on Samar until the end of the war. After honorably serving his country Mr. Lonsinger attended Ohio Northern University, where he earned a degree in pharmacy. He purchased the Lynn Pharmacy in Utica in 1953 and ran it and a branch pharmacy in Danville until his retirement in 1996.

Mr. Lonsinger was an active member of the Utica United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees, the latest being the Pastoral Relations Committee. He joined the Ohio Lodge 199 F&AM in Bladensburg in 1946. He was a member of the Valley of Columbus Scottish Rite, the Aladdin Shrine, and the Utica and Licking County Shrine Clubs. He was a member of the Utica American Legion Post 92, receiving his 50-year pin in 2004.

Mr. Lonsinger was a member and past president of the Licking County Board of Health for 35 years. He served as a trustee of the Licking Memorial Hospital for six years. He belonged to the Licking County, Ohio State and the American Pharmaceutical Associations. He was a member of the PT Boat Association. Mr. Lonsinger was instrumental in implementing the polio vaccine program in Licking County. He also spearheaded the drive to get physicians to come and practice in the Utica area in the '70s. He was always most supportive of his community and most interested in the health and well being of the area.

Mr. Lonsinger enjoyed his home in Story, Wyo., as well as his farm and jeep in Licking County. His family and friends will be hard pressed to accept the void that his death has created.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Utica United Methodist Church, where the funeral will be Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Ric Harvel and the Rev. Daniel Drew officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be in the Martinsburg Cemetery. Masonic services will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. at the church. The North-Dilley Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.

The family has requested that there be no flowers. To honor Charlie, donations may be made in his name to Park National Bank, P.O. Box 486, Utica, OH 43080 (to be used for a pharmacy scholarship); or the Utica United Methodist Church, 626 North St., Utica, OH 43080; or the Ohio Lodge 199 F&AM Endowment Fund, P.O.
