Alton Evening Telegraph, 8 Sep 1937, Wed.:

James Allred, 81, a life-long resident of Alton, died Tuesday at 9 p.m. at St. Joseph's Hospital several hours after he had been moved there for treatment. Allred had been from his residence on East Broadway to the hospital yesterday morning when a turn for the worse was apparent in his condition.
Surviving are three daughters, Miss Lois and Miss Florence Allred, and Mrs. Thomas Close, all of Alton, and two sons, James and William, both of Alton. He also leaves his two sisters, Mrs. Mary Ann Harting and Mrs. Ella Mac McCarthy, both of St. Louis, and one grandchild.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 2 p.m., at the Streeper funeral home. Burial will be in Alton City Cemetery.
