Joan Phyllis Haverlock, 87, passed away in Sandpoint, Idaho on Thursday, April 12, 2007.
A Vigil Service will be held at 7:00 pm, Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Coffelt's Funeral Chapel, 109 N. Division Ave., in Sandpoint, Idaho.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 19, 2007 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 6th and Oak, in Sandpoint, Idaho. Father Dennis C. Day officiating. Burial will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Park Cemetery in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Joan was born on January 31, 1920 the daughter of Ben and Laura (Egan) Flesher, Joan was the eldest of four children. Joan was born, grew up and schooled in Minneapolis, MN and attended the University of Minnesota.
Joan married Paul Zuppke in 1947 and they had their one daughter Constance (Connie) Mary Zuppke in 1950.
They moved to California in 1955 where Joan started working for her father's accounting firm, "Flesher, Flesher, and Flesher", as a bookkeeper. She also worked at Compton College's Library as a librarian for 10 years.
Joan married James R. Haverlock in 1967. They moved to Heber City, Utah in 1974, where Joan worked at the Wasatch Co. Library.
In 1980 Joan and Jim moved to Post Falls, Idaho, where she retired and was closer to her daughter and husband and two grandchildren Trevor John Scherr and Teresa M. Scherr.
In Post Falls, Idaho she visited Shut-ins, and helped at her local Parish, St. George's Catholic Church, where she helped with funeral dinners and their soup kitchen.
Joan had many warm memories of herself and family growing up in Minnesota and their summer cabin on Lake Minnetonka. She grew up loving to swim and canoe in the summers and ice skate in the winters. She took great pride in her excellent grades and spelling. Joan painted in oils through the years and leaves behind many beautiful paintings.
Joan is lovingly remembered for her quick wit, her love of music and dancing (she still loved to dance right up until her death), for her excellent pie crusts, her wonderful imagination when playing with her grandkids and telling them stories. For their pantry that was always the best to raid, and mostly for her deep devotion to our Lord and his Blessed Mother.
We know you are in Heaven dancing with your beloved Jim and shinning in our Lord's love.
Joan is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Connie and Les Scherr of Sagle, Idaho. Grandson Trevor J. Scherr of Orange Co., Ca.; Granddaughter Teresa M. Benard of Long Beach, Ca. Her brothers Tom Flesher of Washington, D.C., and Paul Flesher of Minneapolis, Mn.; Sister Peggy Foster of Ca.
