Edward Quick was the first husband of Allura Frances (Reimel)Quick Geis. He was the father of Edna (Quick) Hunsberger - who was not yet born when he was killed. Edward was tragically killed in an train accident. There are 2 reports which vary in the details. One report claims that he pulled the brake chain and it broke and he fell from the train, in the other report it states that he was trying to take his lunch kettle from his wife and lost his balance and fell upon the tracks. It does state in both accounts that he was working on a gravel train.

Two news accounts of the event:

Fatal Accident

On Tuesday afternoon at 5 o'clock A Edward Quick, of Blairstown, was killed while braking on a gravel train on the New York, Susquehanna and Western Railroad near Washingtonville, Sussex County. While he was applying the brake the chain broke and he fell on the track. Several cars passed over him. His head and right arm were cut off and his body was badly mutilated. Quick was twenty-six years of age and married. This is the first fatal accident that has occurred on the Blairstown division of the above road.

Portland, Sept. 13- A horrible accident occurred last night near Blairstown, on the Blairstown railroad, by which a young man was instantly killed and horribly mangled in the presence of his young wife. Edward Quick age 22 who formerly was a brakeman on the Bangor and Portland road and well known here, has of late been employed on the Blairstown road. Last night while on a gravel train, which was moving slowly, he attempted to take his supper kettle from his wife who stood by the road side. By some means he lost his balance and fell for the train almost at her feet. His head fell upon the rails and was instantly crushed by the wheels. His young wife, terror stricken by the appalling sight, almost lost control of her reason. The train men were sickened by the accident and the people thrown into the greatest excitement.
