David D. Nauenburg, 54, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Columbus Community Hospital after a 16 ½ month battle with cancer.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, May 9, 10:30 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church in Columbus with Rev. Doug Zurek officiating. Interment will be in the Columbus Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 AM.
David was born on December 29, 1957, in Columbus, Nebraska, to Harvey and Alta (Michaelsen) Nauenburg. He grew up in Columbus where he was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1976. While in high school he participated in wrestling, and just last year the 1974 Columbus Discovers wrestling team was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. After graduating from high school, he began working full time for his father at Harvey Nauenburg Construction. He loved his work and he took great pride in making sure that each brick was perfect. On July 15, 1988, he married Sandi (Terwey) Henke at Trinity Lutheran Church. They made their home in Columbus. David enjoyed water skiing, boating, hunting, spending time at the farm, being with family and friends, and being "Papa" to his grandson Aidan.
