Oscar S. "Buddy" Gibbs, 85, of Manasquan, passed away at his home Thursday May 3 with his family by his side. Oscar was born in Spring Lake, raised in West Belmar and lived in Manasquan for almost 60 years. He was a graduate of Manasquan High School class of 1948 and a member of the football team. Oscar served his country during WWII in the US Navy SeaBees, and was a member of the Sampson WWII Navy Vets. He worked for Jersey Central Power and Light Company for 40 years, retiring in 1992, and was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Oscar was an exempt member of Manasquan Volunteer Engine Company #2, a retired member and past president of Manasquan First Aid Squad, and a former member of the Shade Tree Commission. He also volunteered for Manasquan Brielle Little League and Manasquan Boy Scouts. Oscar enjoyed working around his home and was always willing to assist any of his neighbors.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Olga (nee Lengyel) Gibbs of Manasquan, and a son, Lester Gibbs of Plymouth Township, PA. Oscar was predeceased by his son Peter in 2011. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Ruth Gibbs, Manasquan, a grandson and his wife, PJ and Kristen Gibbs, of Manasquan, a granddaughter Melissa Gibbs and her fiancé Kyle Moberg of Brick, a great granddaughter, Payton Gibbs, and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to call Tuesday May 8 from 3-8 pm at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 am Wednesday May 9, at St. Denis Church, Manasquan, NJ. Interment to follow at Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Meridian 1345 Campus Parkway, Suite A2, Neptune, NJ 07753.
