She was the daughter of Maryland Governor George Plater and the wife of Philip Barton Key. They were married July 4, 1790 at Saint Mary's County, Maryland. She gave birth to eight children: George Barton Key (inf); Elizabeth Rousby Johnson; Mary Lloyd Key who would marry William Russell Nevin; Philip Barton Key Jr. who would marry Mary Brent Sewall; Rebecca Ann Key who would marry William Howard first and then Alexander H Tyson; Emily Louise Key; Louise Emily Key and Anne Arnold Key.
