Mrs. Roberts, 92, of Ball formerly of Pineville, passed away Tuesday, May1, 2012, at the residence of her daughter.

Marion Elaine was one of the few remaining descendents of the pioneer Johnson family of Grant Parish. As a young child she began cooking for her family. All through her life she was diligent to provide a loving home for her family and wonderful food for her family, friends, and her church family. She was a sister to not only her and Varnell's siblings, but also to their wives/husbands.

She was a gentle disciplinarian to her children, instilling in them and the grandchildren that followed the values she lived throughout her life, Her Christian faith was witnessed by everyone with whom she came in contact, both young and old. Her influence will be felt for many generations to come, in her family, and in her "community" family.

Favorite children's songs that she sang are being passed on through the third generation. Marion Elaine was the first telephone operator in Pollock, La. The life she shared there with family and friends were some of the happiest of her life. Visiting with all the aunts, uncles, and cousins was a joy to her until she passed away. She was a member of Kingsville Baptist Church and was hostess at the church for many years. She was also an Assistant Dietitian at Baptist Hospital.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Varnell E. Roberts, Sr.; parents, John B. & Thelma Johnson Gates; brothers, Brenton N. Gates, John B. "Jack" Gates, Jr., Forest E. Gates, James A. Gates, Sr.; great granddaughter, Marion Elaine Hollingsworth, her namesake.

Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Varnell E. Roberts, Jr. & wife Susan of Denver, CO; daughters, Frances R. Andrews & husband R.P. of Ball, Marinell Roberts Hollingsworth & husband Joe of Bossier City; four grandchildren, Jeffrey R. Andrews & wife Alison, Brian R. Hollingsworth & wife Nikki, Justin E.
