AVILLA - K. Dan Whonsetler, 79, of rural Avilla, died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 7:48 p.m. at the Laurels of DeKalb. He had been in failing health for the last two years. He was a longtime farmer, delivered gas and retired from Flint and Walling's after many years of service. He was known to be a "pack rat" enjoyed being outdoors cutting his grass, traveling with his wife and watching IU basketball. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in LaOtto. Born on April 9, 1936, to the late Kenneth C. and Ruth (Worman) Whonsetler, he was a lifetime Avilla resident and graduated from Avilla High School in 1957. He married Alice Griffin on April 15, 1977 in LaOtto, she survives.
Also surviving are: five step sons, James Truelove of Kendallville, David Truelove of Butler, Ricky and Sheryl Truelove of Waterloo, Randy Truelove of Butler and Steven Truelove of Butler; a step daughter Paula (Danny) Livergood of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-great- grandchildren; a sister-in-law; and Edith Whonsetler of LaOtto. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Joe Whonsetler. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Brazzell Funeral Homes, Avilla Chapel. Burial will follow at the Hooper-King Cemetery in rural Avilla. Visitation will be on Monday, May 7, 2012 from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
