The Sac Sun - Thursday , November 4th, 1937 - Miss Mary Lyon, who has made her home with her brother-in-law Wm Peters in Sac City for a number of years, passed away Oct 27 at the Storm Lake Hospital where she had been taken 2 weeks ago because of a broken hip. She lacked but a few days of being 94 years of age.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the Presbyterian church. Pall bearers were M Currie, EP Lawry, FO Lake, AL Manly, BC Oldson, and Emmet Eldridge.

Mr and Mrs Sidney Lyon of Creston and Rev F Emery Lyon of Chicago were relatives from out of town who attended the funeral.

Mary C Lyon, one of a family of 10 children, was born in Union, NJ Nov 22, 1843. When but a small child her parents moved to Lawn Ridge, IL, 15 miles from Peoria. She received her early education in the Lawn Ridge schools, later graduating from the County Normal at Peoria. Next she entered the State Normal school at Bloomington, IL and after graduating taught a few years.

She gave much thought and study to physical education hearing the call to a higher service in life and the study of healing pursued in a college in Philadelphia. After successfully completing the study of therapeutics, she assisted in the care of patients in the Dr Humphreys Sanitarium in Galesburg for some 25 years.

Miss Lyon was a profound student of life and quick to sense new opportunities of service. Not with standing her mature years, she enrolled in the Columbia College of Expression, Chicago with a view of specializing upon kindergarten work. She then engaged in this work, conducting a kindergarten school of her own for a number of years. With the advance of years and a life of unremitting study and service for others, who will some day call her blessed, she retired from her years of active ministration, making her home with a brother living near Lawn Ridge.

In the fall of 1921 she was summoned to Creston due to the passing of one of her brothers. Because of the serious illness at that time of her sister, Mrs Willian J Peters, Sac City she decided to come here in order that she might do all in her power to relieve in this hour of suffering. Following the death of this sister, Miss Lyon made her permanent home with her brother-in-law and niece in this city.

She leaves to mourn her passing 2 brothers: Joseph O Lyon of Creston and Rev F Emory Lyon, Chicago; her brother-in-law Wm J Peters, and niece, Miss Mabel Peters with whom she has lived the past 16 years and other relatives and friends.
