Son of Jacob Jr and Elisabeth Wise Shidler, who donated the land for the Dunkard church and cemetery, now known as the Ten Mile Church of the Brethren and the Lone Pine Cemetery at Scenery Hill.

Inscribed on his tombstone is the following:
The tyrant death came rushing in,
His dreadful power did show,
Out of this world this child did take death,
and laid its visage low.
No more the pleasant child is seen,
to please its parent's eye,
the tender plant, so fresh and green
is in eternity.
