W.A. Griffin, aged 33, river pilot for the past 10 years died in Marine Hospital in Memphis Sunday. Mr. Griffin, formerly lived in Newport and operated boats on the White River and continued to call Newport his home after living here and operated boats on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers.
Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Tuesday in charge of the Rev. Chas. F. Wilkins and the Rev. A.A. Pearce from the home of his sister, Mrs. W.J. Bandy of East Newport with burial at Walnut Grove Cemetery in charge of Frank Leach, undertaker.
Mr. Griffin was born at Maynard, Ark.
In addition to Mrs. Bandy, he is survived by another sister, Mrs. Fern Miller, West Helens, his mother, Mrs. Nevada Griffin, West Helena; five brothers, Harry, of Paducah, Kentucky, P.J. of Rockport, ILL, A.L. of Helena, Raymond of Shreveport, LA.
