Funeral services for Helen Smith Horton will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at Rose-Neath's Bossier Chapel with Reverend Daniel Hignight of Trinity Presbyterian Church officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2011 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Bossier City, LA.Mrs. Horton was born February 19, 1926 in Hosston, LA to Curley Marshall and Gurthie Matlock Smith. She entered into eternal life on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the age of 85. She graduated from Rocky Mount High School and attended business school. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Bossier City.Helen took special joy in her role as a loving wife of 61 years, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to all who knew her. She will be remembered by many as a sweet lady with a big smile. She always put others first and had such a gentle and quiet spirit.She was preceded in death by her husband, Harley "Buddy" Dove Horton, Jr.; her parents and infant sister, Christine.Left to cherish her memory is her son, Glen H. Horton and wife Christi of Haughton, LA; daughter, Jan H. Tooke and husband Nick of Benton, LA; brother, C. Kenneth Smith and wife Betty of Bossier City, LA; sisters, Burnie Dee Coker and husband Lewis Ray of Benton, LA, Mary Ellen Edwards of Haughton, LA; four grandchildren, Landon Tooke and wife Jan of Ruston, LA, Paul Horton and wife Susan of Fort Worth, TX, Kyle Tooke and fianc?e Lea Nelson of Bossier City, LA, Valerie Ashby and husband Josh of Benton, LA; great-grandchildren, Emily Tooke of Ruston, LA, Maddie Horton of Fort Worth, TX, Andrew Tooke of Ruston, LA and Carter Ashby of Bossier City, LA and a host of family and friends.Honoring Mrs. Horton as pallbearers will be Nick Tooke, Landon Tooke, Paul Horton, Kyle Tooke, Josh Ashby and Kenneth Smith.The family wishes to express special thanks to her caregivers Debbie Roque, Yvette Raphiel, Katherine Kelly and Yolanda Taylor.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1944 Airline Dr., Bossier City, LA 71112 or charity of donor's choice.
