Nannie Mae Evans, age 86, of Georgetown, Texas, formerly of Temple, Texas, died Thursday, April 22, 2010 from kidney disease. She was born on March 2, 1924 to parents Joe and Cora Slama in rural Austin County, Texas, the youngest girl from family of eight children, six girls and two boys. Nannie was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church in Georgetown. She worked as church secretary for 35 years at Memorial Baptist Church in Temple. Nannie was involved in ranching all of her life and enjoyed candy making and canning vegetables. Nannie's family will remember her as a giving, loving and person with a sense of humor. They will miss her wonderful home cooked meals.

She was preceded in death by her husband Albert S. Evans Jr., parents Joe and Cora Slama, sisters Helen Zander, Bessie Smith, Ruby Perry and Eva Norwood, brothers Joe Melvin Slama and Herbert Leon Slama and a nephew Jerry Wayne Smith.

She is survived by her sister, Mary Johnson of Conroe, Texas; eight nieces and nephew, Jean Hardin, Fay Garrett, Carole Tarwater, Gale Smith, Betty Glenn, Ruth Glenn, Joe Slama and Rebecca Quebodeaux; and numerous great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews and two great great great nieces.

An open visitation will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2010 from 8:00 A.M to 5:00 P.M. at the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home in Georgetown, Texas. Funeral services will at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 25, 2010 in the chapel of the Cook-Walden Davis Funeral Home with Pastor Darrell Hudson officiating. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Georgetown. Serving as pallbearers will be Wayne Doss, Bobby Ripps, Ken Garrett, Mel Tarwater, Paul Tarwater and Curtis Tarwater.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Nannie's honor at: Franklin Graham Samaritan's Purse, P.O. Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
