It is said that Lucy Ladd was born on 23 October 1834 in Dalton, Coos County, New Hampshire or in Whitefield, Coos County, NH. She was s watercolor artist. She married George William Stratton (b 1830 - d 1901), son of William Stratton and Mary F. Lumbard, in May 1862 at NH. She spent decades in Europe. She and her husband built a library in West Swanzey, NH which is where he was from. She donated some of her paintings to the library. The Stratton Free Library and Art Gallery still has five paintings on display. She willed her other paintings to the Library of Congress. All 1,568 of them. A few paintings are in the hands of private collectors as well as family members. The Erie County Historical Society is the only other place her works can be seen.
