Daniel R. Mains, 56, of Ironton, died suddenly Thursday in Kissimmee, Fla.

He was born Oct. 26, 1927, a son of the late James J. and Kathryne Byrne Mains. He was a supervisor for the shipping department of the Dayton Malleable Iron Company. He was a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church and the Ironton Elks. He was a U.S. Army Veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sue Curnutte Mains; five sons, Lou Mains of Ironton, Larry Mains of Ashland, Tim Mains of Ironton, Danny Mains of the U.S. Marine Corps in California and John Mains at home; four daughters, Mrs. Bud (Patty) Blalock of Huntington, Mrs. David (Karen) Harrison, Anita Mains of Ashland and Mrs. Jim (Mary) Kathryne Smith of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. George (Mary Elizabeth) Holtzapfel of Ironton; one brother, James J. Mains of Ironton; and 10 grandchildren.

Mass of Resurrection will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church by Father James A. Dirker. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call at the O'Keefe-Baker Funeral Home after 6 p.m. Monday. Rosary recitation will be conducted at 8 p.m.

Dan's original birth certificate was incorrectly filed with
the name Ralph Elbert Mains. The courts were petitioned
but refused to change it. Dan had to carry an affidavit
attatched to his birth certificate regarding the error.
