Colonel William Crosbie Siddons Mair, who died at his residence, White Moss, Rydal, was the son of Major Mair, the 62nd Foot, and grandson Colonel Mair, Governor Fort-George. He was a great-grandson of Mrs Sarah Siddons, a godson of Ladv Byron, the poet's widow, and was married in 1873 to Mary Louisa .Wordeworth, a granddaughter of Wordsworth. Ever since his grandfather, Colonel Mair, settled in Edinburgh, early last century, the family has been intimately connected with the city and its activities, which the sisters of the newly deceased Colonel still take a share.
