Donnel "Don" Adams Sr. passed away April 25, 2012 in Yates Center, Kansas. He was 89.

Don was born on June 23, 1922 in Concreto, a small town in Allen County, Kansas, the son of Joseph Andrew and Estella M. (Patterson) Adams.

He moved to Yates Center with his parents in 1932. He attended Vernon School, north of Yates Center and after he began working on his parent's farm. Don also spent some of his adulthood traveling with his brother Johnny on the Race Track Circuit where his brother was a known Jockey.

After traveling for some time Don returned to Yates Center where he met and married Wanda Zilliox on June 6, 1942 in Iola, Kansas at the home of Judge Dunlap. Don then entered the Army Air Force where he served in WWII and worked as a Military Policeman and escorted many different known Generals in history. During and after Don's enlistment he and Wanda had 5 children: Janice, Diana, Catherine (Cathy), DeLana and Donnel (Don) Jr.

Don was very active in the community and served as Chairman on a number of boards such as the Woodson County Cooperative Association, Woodson County Farm Bureau, and The Woodson County Extension Council. He was also Originator and Chairperson for the Woodson County Artificial Breeders Association as well as a Past-Commander of American Legion Post #13, a member of the Yates Center Branch Bank Advisory Board, the American Livestock Association and a 4-H Leader for many years.

His wife, Wanda, preceded him in death on April 26, 2009. He was also preceded by his parents; six brothers; five sisters; and a Great-Granddaughter, Casandra Chadwick.

He is survived by his children, Janice Vanatta and husband George of Odessa, Missouri, Diana Dixon of Yates Center, Catherine (Cathy) Nolan and husband Perry of Hutchinson, Kansas, DeLana Jeffery and husband Kurt of Yates Center, and Donnel (Don) Adams Jr. and wife Karen of Yates Center; twenty-two grandchildren; fifty-nine great-grandchildren; twelve great-great grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; many other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Monday, April 30, 2012, at 10:30A.M., at the United Methodist Church in Yates Center with burial with military honors following at Yates Center Cemetery.

The family will meet with friends on Sunday, April 29, 2012, from 6:30-8:00PM at Campbell Funeral Home, Yates Center.
